The reporter learned from Chongqing Customs yesterday that in the first quarter of this year, the city's foreign trade import and export increased significantly, of which only notebook computers exported more than one million units, reaching a new record of 1,327,000 units.

According to statistics from Chongqing Customs, the total foreign trade value of Chongqing's imports and exports in the first quarter of this year was US$4.06 billion, an increase of 72.4% over the same period of last year, which was far higher than the 29.5% level of the country's overall import and export growth over the same period. Among them, exports were US$2.3 billion, up 73.3%; imports were US$1.76 billion, up 71.1%.

Among the many export products, laptops are undoubtedly the most eye-catching stars. In the first quarter of this year, the value of laptops exported was 480 million U.S. dollars, accounting for 11.8% of the total value of imports and exports.

The gap between the export volume of notebook computers, auto parts and related parts and components is shrinking. Statistics show that in the first quarter of this year, the export value of automobile and motorcycle and related parts and components in the city was 570 million U.S. dollars, a difference of which was only 0.9 billion U.S. dollars.

According to the estimation of the relevant departments of the municipal government, by 2012, the total output of the computer industry in the city will reach 200 billion yuan, and with other electronic industries, the total size can reach 400 billion yuan, which will replace the automobile and motorcycle industry and become the first A pillar industry will account for more than 25% of the industry.
