On November 29-30, 2009, the LED street lighting series training class sponsored by Gaogong LED--the second phase of the electrical design training class was successfully held in Shenzhen Nanshan Digital Culture Industry Base. More than 30 people from Shenzhen and Dongguan attended the training course.

       Prof. Chai Guangyue, a researcher from the School of Optoelectronic Engineering of Shenzhen University, explained in detail the factors of LED heat generation and the basic factors affecting heat dissipation and the basic theory of heat transfer. The modeling and simulation of LED thermal management system were introduced. In terms of packaging, the typical package structure and packaging materials of LEDs were analyzed, and several latest packaging processes, such as eutectic soldering process and thermal ultrasonic welding process, were highlighted. Finally, several LED thermal characteristics evaluation and main measurement methods, such as wavelength shift method, turn-on voltage thermal drift method and infrared microscope thermal field method, are introduced.

       Dr. Zhong Qun, an expert in LED technology and a director of the Century Crystal Source R&D Center, compared the goals and requirements of road lighting design to compare the differences between LED light sources and traditional street light sources. The introduction and comparison of the American IES standard, the European CIE standard and the Chinese standard for the light distribution requirements of street lamps, and the rationality of light distribution as the main technical indicators, explain in detail the lighting of different areas (such as carriageways, sidewalks) solution. Dr. Zhong finally analyzed the current practical application of LED street lamps in China.

       Prof. Wen Shangsheng, Director of Information Display and Optoelectronic Technology, School of Materials Science, South China University of Technology, gave a systematic explanation on the power drive technology of LED street lamps. From the basics of circuit analysis, switching power supply foundation to LED driver power supply foundation and design, a vivid explanation was given, and a large number of design reference materials were given to the students.

       Dr. Gu Jian, Chief Technology Officer and Vice President of Rescom Microelectronics, explained the design technology of LED street light intelligent control system to the participants. Dr. Gu introduced the control characteristics and control methods of LEDs in the classroom. The paper introduces the remote intelligent control technology scheme of LED street light by using power line carrier communication technology.

       Through two days of study, the students mastered the knowledge of high-power LED packaging technology, LED road lighting, LED street light power drive design and LED street light intelligent control system technology.

       At this point, the 2009 LED street lighting series training courses sponsored by Gaogong LED were all over. In addition, the 2009 LED indoor lighting series training course (two issues) will continue to open in Shenzhen Nanshan Digital Culture Industry Base on December 5-6 and December 12-13.

       The first training course of the 2009 LED indoor lighting series training course includes: LED indoor lighting optical design, LED lamp heat dissipation design technology, how to make a full range of color temperature white LED, LED and health lighting, a total of four courses.

       The second phase of indoor lighting training courses include: LED indoor lighting driver power supply design, how to verify the quality of LED chips, low-power LED packaging and application technology, US Energy Star product technical standards interpretation, European LED product testing and certification requirements, IES Interpretation of the electrical and photometric methods approved by the LM-79 solid-state lighting product, and interpretation of the IES LM-80 measurement of the luminous flux maintenance of the LED source, for a total of seven courses.
