Core summary: As a world manufacturing power, China's export industry has never lacked news events. In August last year, toymaker Zhang Shuhong’s suicide by exporting products to the United States was still chilling. Recently, China’s export lighting has frequently encountered warnings and recalls, which occurred twice in March alone. What kind of problems have been encountered in China’s lighting exports? Is it a quality issue or is it a cause?

â– Reinventing the attack

Export lighting has been frustrated, which is a major blow to export companies. On January 10th, the United States implemented a voluntary recall of our domestic PortfolioI ncandescent torch lamp. The number of recalled goods was about 90,000 baht. In February, the domestic “Kitten Dream” table lamp was issued a consumer warning by the European Union; in early March, the EU On the Other hand, the domestic "Guangming" mirror lamp issued a consumer warning; on March 19, the United States recalled the domestic outdoor ceiling lamp. It is understood that a large part of the export enterprises involved in the case are from Zhongshan Guzhen. After considering the re-inspection, sending overseas will increase the high transportation cost, and most of the recalled products will be destroyed, which will cause great losses to the enterprise.

Although the amount of warnings and recalls of lighting exports is far less than that of toys and electronic products, the heavy losses suffered by toy exporting companies can foresee the serious consequences of the recall of lighting exports. The same as China's lighting exports, the export volume of domestic toys also accounts for a large proportion of China's total exports. In 2006 alone, China's toy exports exceeded US$7 billion, and it was sold to more than 160 countries and regions around the world. It has an important position in the world's major toy markets such as the European Union, the United States, Hong Kong and Japan. Take the United States as an example. In 2006, China exported about 300,000 toys to the United States. In the same year, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission recalled 29 toy cases against China. The recalls are endless.

In August last year, the recall of domestically produced children's toys involved 967,000 children's toys from Lida Toys Co., Ltd., and Zhang Shuhong, a partner of Foshan Lida Toys Co., Ltd., was found hanging up in a company located in Pingzhou. This caused an uproar in the export industry. After the incident, the responsible party was completely attributed to the manufacturer, and the raw material suppliers, domestic inspection agencies, and foreign importers who should be jointly responsible were all standing by. This is a partner on the front line. After the incident, the manufacturer is so lonely. It can be imagined that the overwhelmed lighting export enterprises can only declare bankruptcy and bankruptcy after encountering the "recall".

In addition, frequent recalls have an impact on the export of industry in overseas markets. The head of a Dongguan toy company that was recalled said that although the incident will not affect the entire industry in the short term, "but the orders may be reduced afterwards, because they worry that the relevant US departments may use the title to render the image of China's problem products, and A series of more stringent technical standards have been introduced. The overseas credibility of lighting exports will also be gradually reduced in the event of continuous recalls, thus affecting export orders.

â– Safety hidden dangers

In the recent export lighting recalls, export quality has always been considered a “handle”. The EU alleged that my domestic lamp has the danger of causing the user to be shocked; the United States emphasizes that the domestic lamp has the potential to fall and cause fire. The quality of export lighting products has been put on the agenda. What is the crux of the problem?

According to Ms. Xin Teli Huang of Zhongshan City, foreign consumers have higher requirements on the appearance and quality of products, and they are much stricter in quality control than in China. Especially when it comes to issues such as environmental protection and personal safety, they pay more attention to it. For example, EN60598 in the European Union is a standard for lighting products. It has clear requirements for lighting safety issues, and export lighting must be strictly implemented in accordance with this requirement.

China’s export products were recalled as “dangerous goods”, mostly because of potential safety hazards. Take the EU market as an example. In the year after the release of the European Product Safety Directive, the notification rate of dangerous products increased by an average of 25% over last year. Among them, the number of safety notices for Chinese products topped the list, accounting for nearly 50% of the total. Similarly, in the recall catalogue of the US Consumer Safety and Protection Committee, toys and appliances produced in China also occupy a very high proportion. In Europe and the United States, after the products are put on the market, through special inspections, user feedback, complaint reports, etc., if the product is found to be defective in design or manufacturing, it does not comply with local regulations and standards, and may have resulted in safety or environmental protection. The problem is that the merchant must inform the competent authorities and consumers about the situation and recall and improve the defective products to prevent accidents.

Many insiders have reported that some domestic lighting products do have quality problems. Mainly small enterprises that are not produced according to the standard, in order to reduce costs, the quality of the products is not related. They are generally not costly in terms of raw material selection. Some companies choose low-cost lead materials or coatings that do not meet international standards; others do not work hard on product design, and of course they are unqualified for European and American countries with strict child protection. This has brought a very negative impact on the long-term development of China's lighting export industry and the credibility of overseas markets.
